Hafertepe Claims Steve King Memorial Glory; Kirchoff and Priddy Score Support Wins at Dodge City Raceway Park

DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 31, 2025) — A packed house and a stout field of racers made for a memorable night at Dodge City Raceway Park as the annual Steve King Memorial roared to life Saturday night. With 33 elite drivers entering the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) portion of the program, it was five-time ASCS national champion Sam Hafertepe Jr. who etched his name in the history books once again. The night also saw standout performances from Ryan Kirchoff in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Dion Priddy in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.

ASCS Sprints: Hafertepe Holds Off Gossel for Emotional Win

Rolling off from the outside front row in the 25-lap feature, Sam Hafertepe Jr. wasted no time asserting his presence at the front of the field. After finishing second in the Dash behind Austyn Gossel, Hafertepe exacted his revenge when it mattered most, powering into the lead early and holding off a relentless Gossel through heavy traffic and late-race pressure.

Gossel, who started on the pole, kept Hafertepe honest throughout, ultimately finishing second, while Kyler Johnson earned a strong podium result in third after a consistent night. Veteran Roger Crockett and regional standout Jake Bubak rounded out the top five in a race that ran clean and quick, clocking in at just over eight and a half minutes.

Notably, Jason Martin made one of the biggest moves of the night. After winning the Last Chance Showdown, Martin stormed from 17th to finish inside the top ten in ninth. Steven Richardson, a local favorite and former Steve King Memorial winner, qualified through the LCS but settled for 23rd after contact late in the going.

IMCA Northern Sport Mods: Kirchoff Charges to Victory from Row Four

In the 20-lap IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature, Ryan Kirchoff showcased patience and precision, slicing his way from the eighth starting position to victory lane. Kirchoff used the high side to make steady progress and took command in the second half of the race, holding off a hard-charging Brianna Maughlin, who finished second after winning her heat earlier in the evening.

Dustin Lampe brought his No. 01 machine home third, followed closely by Jonathan Saliba and Justin Lampe, who rallied from deep in the field to round out the top five. The feature saw its share of attrition, with four drivers failing to finish, including Jack Kirchoff and Jeff Ray, both of whom ran inside the top ten early on.

IMCA Hobby Stocks: Priddy Powers to the Front for Friday Night Score

Drama unfolded in the IMCA Hobby Stock A-Feature as Austin Rich initially took the checkered flag, only to be disqualified in post-race tech. That handed the win to Dion Priddy, who had surged from ninth starting spot in a strong drive through the field. Brendan Rich was credited with second, and Cole Schulte rounded out the podium after leading early laps. The field put on a competitive and clean show—until tech inspection reshuffled the final results.
